Linebacker James Laurinaitis set to join Saints

Former Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis is signing with the New Orleans Saints.

According to multiple reports, and confirmed by Laurinaitis via his Twitter account, the seven-year veteran will be joining the Saints after he was released by the Rams last month.

Laurinaitis has been incredibly durable despite playing a position more prone to high-speed collisions than others. He’s started all 112 games of his career without missing a single game and rarely missed any snaps on defense. He’s posted 852 tackles – at least 109 in every season he’s played – with 16.5 sacks, 10 interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Laurinaitis should help improve a defense that was absolutely atrocious in 2015. The Saints ranked 31st in total defense (413.4 yards per game) and 32nd in points per game allowed (29.8).

We need all the help we can get and it looks like a good move for the Saints…at least on paper.

Why did the Rams cut him in the first place? Lol

The Saints have two capable LBs now. If they get 1 more and play an honest, 4-3 they could have an average D in 2016.

Great pick-up. He will definitely be an improvement to the D.

With Laurinaitis, along with last year’s younger players getting better, I have a feeling the Saints defense will be greatly improved for next season. At least 4 more wins over last season and in the playoffs is what I’m seeing.

Alright! I enjoyed watching his old man do battle with the likes of Hulk Hogan in the ring back in the day, and I look forward to seeing this guy on the field for us this season.

I see him like Scott Shanle quality linebacker not great but a good linebacker which will give his all on the field.

Instant upgrade; he can play alongside #50 Anthony, bring veteran leadership to a young defense, and teach our young athletic backer how to play the middle better. Great pick-up!

James ranked 27th in tackles last year with 109 combined, the same as the year before. James had 142 combined tackles in both 2011 and 2012.
