Safety Rahim Moore agreed to a deal with the Browns on Wednesday, a couple of weeks after he was released by the Texans after the first year of a three-year deal with a total value of $12 million.
With Moore gone and Quintin Demps a free agent, the Texans were short on safeties and remedied that by signing Antonio Allen on Wednesday. The team announced the deal without any terms, but it’s a good bet that Allen won’t be making as much as Moore was making during his one year with the team.
Allen didn’t play at all in 2015 because of a torn Achilles and started 18 games for the Jets between 2012 and 2014. He also saw time at cornerback and on special teams, where he blocked a pair of punts. He returned one block for a touchdown and also scored on a 23-yard interception return against the Patriots in 2013.
The Texans now have Allen, Andre Hal, Eddie Pleasant and Lonnie Ballentine at safety. Hal started 11 times last year, but it would appear a competition for first team jobs looms in Houston with a return from Demps and/or other additions possible before it comes time to make any decisions.
