It was reported almost a month ago that former Browns quarterbacks coach Kevin O’Connell would join the 49ers coaching staff for the 2016 season and the 49ers got around to announcing the hire on Friday.
O’Connell’s formal title is special projects coach. His previous experience with both the Browns and as an NFL backup quarterback would suggest that working with the team’s signal callers will be one of those projects. How big of a project that will be will likely be determined by who the 49ers have on the depth chart heading into next season.
The 49ers also announced that former Boston College and N.C. State offensive coordinator Dana Bible will be a senior analyst. Bible also spent one year as the Eagles offensive coordinator in 1998 and spent three years as the Bengals quarterbacks coach in the early 1990s.
Joe Bowden has been hired as inside linebackers coach after spending the last four years as an assistant linebackers coach with the Rams. Tem Lukabu will be the defensive quality control coach and the 49ers have named Vince Oghobaase as the assistant defensive line coach.
