Report: Steelers visiting with a pair of linebackers

The Steelers lost a pair of backup linebackers this week when Terence Garvin signed with the Redskins and Sean Spence joined the Titans.

They’re reportedly meeting with a pair of players who could contribute to the 2016 team in similar ways on Friday. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports that Spencer Paysinger and Michael Morgan are both visiting the Steelers as the week draws to a close.

Paysinger played for the Dolphins last season and made 25 tackles in 14 games. He spent his first four NFL seasons with the Giants and made 10 starts in 2013, but he’s spent the majority of his career as a special teamer and defensive reserve.

Morgan has spent the last five years with the Seahawks and has seen action in 62 of their last 64 regular season games. He started three of those contests, so, like Paysinger, most of his contributions have come on special teams on a weekly basis.

  1. I hope we don’t sign them. We have four 1st round picks at lb and I feel confident we can find some undrafted rookies to fill in the backup role.

  2. It would have been nice to see Spence stay with the Steelers. I thing he is going to turn out to be an excellent LB. Steelers do need to continue to pursue depth at LB, especially to back up Shazier. To this point Shazier has proven two things – he is one hell of a football player, and he cannot stay healthy enough to play 16 games…or anything close.

At this point, literally anyone would be an upgrade to every position on that horrible defense.

Still whining about us beating your team I see…

  4. Dump Jarvis Jones and get some good linebackers. Other then Shazier, there’s no youth that i’m excited about at the LB position. Bring in some db’s too..still not as bad as being a low life Ravens fan

  5. More LBs? Really?
I swear it as if the Steelers think that the only defensive players on the field are LBs.
Our last 3 1st rd picks are LBs yet the weakest are of the DEF is the secondary.
of those 3, Jones and Dupree have done nothing to contribute whereas Shazier is becoming a stud.

The Steelers should go with DBs in the 1st 2 rounds at least. They cannot count on the Dbs they have, and I hear about how good Golson is but he’s coming off of major knee surgery so he might be even slower.

On DEF the Steelers needs are CB, CB, S,S, NT, DE, CB, LB.

  6. Don’t mind tokyo, he gets sensitive talking about linebackers, after watching his idol Fabio end the past 2 seasons by pulling himself out of the last 5 minutes of the nfccg and then acting like a running partner to Fitzgerald as he dashed towards victory.

  7. Still have Chickallo, Vince Williams, Jordan Zumwalt on the roster. Disagree Dupree is a bust. Under LeBeau he probably would have sat rookie season. Could use some help sure but not as desperate as some make it sound. Maybe sign a FA and get more help in draft, along with DL help to support 2 all pro caliber guys in Heyward and Tuitt.
