In January, Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht said that he was leaning toward keeping backup quarterback Mike Glennon on the roster unless the team got a trade offer “that blows us away.”
No one’s made that offer yet, but Licht sounded a bit more open to the idea of a trade while discussing Glennon’s status on Monday at the league meetings. Licht said he’s heard from teams interested in trading for Glennon, who can become a free agent after the end of the 2016 season, and that he thinks there’s a good chance that conversations with those teams will continue right up to the draft.
“There’s always interest. It’s not a secret,’' Licht said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “There’s always some interest. We’ll see how it goes. We’ve got some time and this is something that could go all the way to the draft.’'
As for getting blown away, Licht denied that he’s told teams it would take a first-round pick for the team to consider dealing Glennon. Licht said he tells “them what I think he’s worth” and that the expectation is that the talks would continue from that point.
While trading Glennon would leave the Bucs with a less experienced backup for Jameis Winston, it’s likely something the team will have to think long and hard about if the return now would be more than the compensatory pick they could receive for letting him go as a free agent.
