The Packers promoted Eliot Wolf from director of pro personnel to director of player personnel last year and they must have given him a good review in his first year on the job because Wolf’s been promoted again.

The team announced Monday that Wolf is now the director of football operations in Green Bay. Wolf has worked for the Packers since leaving college in 2004, steadily moving his way up the ladder in a front office that his father Ron once ran as General Manager during his Hall of Fame career.

The younger Wolf’s name has regularly come up when discussing openings for top personnel jobs around the league, although there’s never been much sign that he’s been close to leaving Green Bay. Staying put and continuing to get promotions has led to talk of Wolf succeeding Ted Thompson in the job once held by his father.

Thompson, who turned 63 this year, has been the G.M. in Green Bay since 2005 and signed a multi-year extension with the team a couple of years ago.

The Packers also announced that Brian Gutekunst has been promoted to director of player personnel after four years as the director of college scouting.
