Wide receiver James Jones’ return to the Packers couldn’t keep the offense from scuffling for long stretches of a season played without Jordy Nelson after he tore his ACL over the summer, but he did keep things from getting any more dire by catching 50 passes for 890 yards and eight touchdowns.
Jones said after the season that he’d like to remain in Green Bay after spending the 2014 season in Oakland and the preseason with the Giants, but it looks like the Packers will need to find themselves in desperate straits again for that to happen. Jones’ agent Frank Bauer said he’s spoken to the team and that they’ve told him there’s no spot for Jones.
“They’re going to go with the young guys,” Bauer said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Davante Adams (also a Bauer client), Jeff Janis, Ty Montgomery and Jared Abbrederis are the younger options that will vie for spots behind Nelson and Randall Cobb in 2016. Bauer said he’s heard from teams with some interest in Jones, but it may be some time before he lands a home for next season should other teams share the Packers’ desire to see what their less experienced wideouts have to offer.
