Buccaneers sign former Jags punter Bryan Anger

The Buccaneers have a new punter, and they didn’t even have to use a third-round pick to get him.

According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, the Bucs are signing former Jaguars punter Bryan Anger to a one-year deal.

Anger was allowed to walk into free agency, and replaced when the Jags signed former Panthers punter Brad Nortman.

He’s kind of a punter, neither awful nor great, but his legacy will remain being perhaps the worst pick of the Gene Smith era in Jacksonville.

By spending the 70th overall pick on the Cal punter, the Jags skipped on players such as Russell Wilson (who might have possibly supplanted Blaine Gabbert), Olivier Vernon (who they didn’t actually sign), Malik Jackson (who they have since signed to a $90 million contract) and many others.

Of course, none of that’s really Anger’s fault. But he’s going to have to drag it around with him the rest of his career, since Smith was fired and hasn’t resurfaced.
