In February, there was a report that the Ravens were going to sign running back Trent Richardson to their offseason roster but no official announcement of an agreement has followed.

That’s because there’s no official deal between player and team. Speaking from the league meetings on Tuesday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh explained that the plan remains for Richardson to join the club although there’s only an informal agreement on that front until General Manager Ozzie Newsome executes a final deal.

“We have an unofficial agreement with Trent. Hopefully, no one will come in and swoop him away from us,” Harbaugh said, via the team’s website. “It’s in Trent’s court. Ozzie and Trent have talked a lot. I text with Trent all the time. He’s keeping me posted on his training. I’m kind of excited about it. Talking on the phone, I really liked him. He’s a high-caliber, high-draft pick guy and it seems like he’s really motivated. Wants to do well.”

Seeing as how no one has done it yet, it seems unlikely that anyone is looming to snap up Richardson before the Ravens decide if they want to go ahead with a deal. If they do move forward, Richardson will join Justin Forsett, Buck Allen, Terrance West and Lorenzo Taliaferro in the quest for spots in the Baltimore backfield.
