Bills coach Rex Ryan is aware that Tyrod Taylor’s agent thinks it’s time for a raise. But Ryan doesn’t sound like giving Taylor a raise is a high priority for the Bills.
“The agent’s probably the most disappointed of them all, but there’s a football team to run, not just one player,” Ryan said this morning at the league meeting. “For the agent, he’s got a player, so I get it, but you have to do what’s in the best interests of your team, and not just one player.”
Ryan said no one should think the Bills aren’t behind Taylor as their starting quarterback. They just don’t think they can afford to give him a new deal right now.
“Our entire organization believes in Tyrod Taylor. However, sometimes when you look at your situation, cap-wise, anything that would include an extension for him would have to be in the best interests of both Tyrod and the Bills, and I think right now it’s probably hard to bring those two things together with our cap situation,” Ryan said.
The Bills are getting a bargain for Taylor this year at $3 million. And they’re in no hurry to change that.
