The Falcons announced on Thursday afternoon that they have reached agreement on a contract with a linebacker, but the deal wasn’t with the free agent that paid them a visit during the day.

Courtney Upshaw was the visitor, but Philip Wheeler is the guy who will end the day as a member of the Falcons roster. The team announced that Wheeler re-signed after spending part of last season with the team.

Wheeler signed with the Falcons in October and played in nine games, starting twice, before the end of the regular season. He only played 149 snaps overall, however, and would likely be in line for a reserve role again in 2016.

Wheeler spent last offseason and preseason with the 49ers, who signed him after he was released by the Dolphins. Wheeler spent two disappointing years in Miami after signing a five-year deal with the team in 2013.
