The Steelers visited with linebackers Spencer Paysinger and Mike Morgan recently, but neither of those players is the team’s newest addition at the position.

The Steelers announced Friday that they have signed Steven Johnson to a one-year contract. The Steelers have lost Sean Spence and Terence Garvin as free agents this offseason and Johnson is the first addition at linebacker in free agency.

Johnson made the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2012 and played 41 games in his first three seasons with the team, including seven starts in 2014. He didn’t make the team out of camp last year and landed with the Titans on waivers. He played all 16 games for Tennessee, largely on special teams.

Spence signed with the Titans, turning the two transactions into something of a swap. The Steelers could still use more depth at the position through the draft or free agency.
