Eagles working out Cal quarterback Jared Goff

The Eagles are working out Jared Goff and Mike Florio talks about whether Philadelphia would truly consider selecting the Cal quarterback with the No. 8 overall pick.

While the Eagles offseason moves in sum have been decisive, the moves they’ve made at quarterback indicate they’re not quite sure what they have at the position.

So they’re going to keep looking.

Via Dave Zangaro of CSNPhilly.com, the Eagles scheduled a private workout with Cal quarterback Jared Goff.

De facto General Manager Howie Roseman said he wanted to get into the top 10 of this year’s draft to make sure he got an elite prospect, and Goff figures to be one of the top two quarterbacks taken. But eighth might not be high enough to get him, and new coach Doug Pederson downplayed the likelihood of using the first round pick on a quarterback last week.

Oh, I don’t know about that,” Pederson said. “But I know if you’re looking for that third quarterback, then there’s some good ones in this draft. Taking out the top three, there’s still some guys in there that you can develop that would be good fits as a number three.”

As part of their offseason spending spree, the Eagles brought back Sam Bradford with something less than a long-term mandate, and brought in Chase Daniel with something more than a strictly backup deal.

And while the Goff news specifically might not be a big deal — if they’re looking at him they’ll probably do the same with Carson Wentz and Paxton Lynch — it does suggest their willingness to keep working on a position they’ve already spent considerable resources on.
