The Chiefs saw Tyvon Branch leave as a free agent last month and veteran Husain Abdullah opted to retire, which left the team without much in the way of veteran options to go with Ron Parker and Eric Berry.

They’ve remedied that in a couple of ways recently. They signed former Charger Jimmy Wilson and agent Blake Baratz announced that his client Stevie Brown has also agreed to a deal in Kansas City.

Brown didn’t play in the NFL in the regular season last year after being cut by the Texans at the end of August and again by the Giants early in September. Brown last played for the Giants in 2014, when he started eight of the 16 games he played after missing the entire 2013 season with a torn ACL.

Brown was a ballhawk for the Giants in 2012, intercepting eight passes, but wasn’t as effective upon his return to the lineup. He and Wilson will likely compete for the third safety role that Branch filled in 2015 and used as a springboard for a two-year deal with the Cardinals.
