Steve Smith rips Greg Hardy’s claim

AP

Unemployed defensive end Greg Hardy is trying to find a way back into the NFL and recently gave an interview in which he claimed he never put his hands on the woman who accused him of domestic violence.

Hardy’s former teammate Steve Smith isn’t buying it.

Smith posted a snippet of Hardy’s interview on Twitter and then wrote, sarcastically, “So I guess she tripped on the carpet or something.”

Given the photographs of Hardy’s accusers injuries, it’s easy to understand why Smith is skeptical of Hardy’s claim that he never put his hands on his accuser. Charges against Hardy were dropped when his accuser accepted a civil settlement from him and declined to testify against him, but that’s a far cry from saying Hardy never put his hands on her.

Smith and Hardy were teammates on the Panthers from 2010 to 2013.

I’m guessing Greg Hardy won’t be needing to “ice up” this year, given that his career’s permanently on ice now.

Remember when Hardy tweeted a pic of his Bentley’s speedometer WHILE he was driving 100 mph? Next day here came Smitty, who owned an identical Bentley, tweeting a pic of his own speedometer, and he was going about 40 mph. Sort of told you right there what Smitty thought of Hardy.

Now I’m rooting for Baltimore to sign Hardy. Then someone just set up an HD security camera in the Ravens locker room, and sit back and watch the fun.

And if they lock horns, bet the farm on Smitty. Ice up, son!

  10. argh88 says: Apr 4, 2016 4:33 PM

Well technically Hardy is right, he didn’t put his hands on her… he beat her with various guns.

  24. gorilladunk says: Apr 4, 2016 4:49 PM

@truninerfan49….the truth is, the VAST MAJORITY of Cowboys fans didn’t like the Hardy signing. All teams (including yours) have players that are useless piles of crap and have no business in the league. Sadly, it goes with the territory these days.

  25. phillysports679 says: Apr 4, 2016 4:51 PM

No Hardy apologist here, but consider this:
An emotionally unstable woman, doped up out of her mind on drugs and alcohol was beaten by someone else. Someone who didn’t have the financial assets of Greg Hardy. She goes to Hardy’s place already beaten up and causes a ruckus. She gets her girlfriend to call 911 saying she’s being beaten. Hardy, unstable himself, is an easy mark for a scam such as this. Yes I know you have to work hard to stretch your mind around this, but people sit around for days thinking of ways to scam money out of someone.

  33. corporatemediaprostitute says: Apr 4, 2016 5:06 PM

Players calling them out is an effective means of mitigating further anti-social, criminal behavior among players. If the NFL Front Office had more common sense to go along with the legal sense, they might actually accomplish some of their stated goals.

A little background: Steve Smith Sr.’s mother was a victim of domestic abuse which he witnessed as a young child.

  52. fbwangus8736 says: Apr 4, 2016 7:13 PM

This from a Guy who ended a team mates career by breaking His orbital bone of His eye socket and then a few years later also broke another team mates nose. Also a few Driving under the influence. Hardy is a piece of crap, but Steve Smith is not much better!

  53. Zac F. says: Apr 4, 2016 7:30 PM

I’m not sure what’s so difficult to understand here.

Greg Hardy has not been proven innocent in a court of law. He settled the case out of court, and the DA decided they couldn’t pursue the charges without the victim’s testimony.

Because of that fact, Greg Hardy can NEVER admit guilt, because doing so would give the state of North Carolina all they need to drag him back to trial.

So the media can bait Hardy every 6 months into a situation where he has to claim innocence so that Darin Gantt can make a big deal out of it again, but that doesn’t change the fact that Hardy is only saying what he has to say.

If he were found guilty, he could walk around and give you all the fake remorse comments you crave for some reason. But again, his case is basically “pending” for the rest of his life.

  56. brettfavreisapacker4ever says: Apr 4, 2016 9:19 PM

    Mark My Words,
I will bet anyone a tall cold one that if no team signs him there’s going to be an attorney somewhere whispering in Hardy’s ear ” Lawsuit Greg, Lawsuit, ” They’ll try to prove the NFL blacklisted him.

I’m in no way a Steve Smith apologist. We all know he’s had his own issues also. But did i just read a comment comparing Steve Smith in a fight with another Grown man. Compared to a 6’5″ football player smacking a woman around. Huh.

@goldenboyoffootball I also am a lifelong cowboys fan and I knew from day that bring this outhouse mold to the team was a bad idea. I am so glad that he gave this interview. Because no longer will he be playing in Dallas…. I’m pretty sure after this he won’t be playing in the NFL either. The guy is so dumb he made these comments while unemployed… And pretty much just ENDED HIS OWN CAREER!!! He will not admit guilt. He will not apologize. He’s trying to lie to the American people when there’s pictures and sworn testimony. No team will touch this guy. He’s so done it’s not even funny. How can a person be that dumb? It’s almost impossible is t it?

I read a few comments bashing the commissioner in regards to this fool. While Goodell deserves many of the bashings he gets, he doesn’t on this. He originally suspended Hardy for 10 games and an arbitrator reduced it to 4. So while you may complain he should have gotten more games or even permanently suspended, I merely point out it would have been overturned anyway.
Sometimes it really ISN’T Goodell’s fault

    Shocking

  73. dhector23 says: Apr 5, 2016 3:15 PM

I was falsely accused by a scammer, so it can happen, especially to a rich, unstable dude. That being said, I don’t think that’s the case here. Highly likely he did. But according to the laws of this nation, he’s not been proven guilty. Again, that being said, I was not happy when my cowboys signed him. The plethora of assault rifles laying around bother me just as much. Yes, some of us in Texas are not gun nuts, but they have their rights. Don’t know why anything other than hand guns for protection or hunting rifles are needed by regular people though. Finally, my main point that I don’t see anyone saying is that, if you think you haven’t rooted for many guys who are just as guilty, then you’re lying to yourself. Glass houses, people.
