The Saints released cornerback Brandon Browner last month despite a guaranteed salary for the 2016 season, which tells you pretty much all you need to know about Browner’s level of play in New Orleans last season.
Browner struggled across the board for the Saints and there hasn’t been any noted interest in his services since he hit the open market, something that Browner may be trying to change by talking about a previously undisclosed injury that impacted him. In a post to his Instagram account, Browner said that he tore his MCL in the first game of the preseason and played through it once the regular season started.
“Anyone who has tore something in the knee knows the little muscles around the knee go dead,” Browner wrote. “So your recovery is things to strengthen that area and get the muscles to firing again. Anyways I come back wearing a knee brace because my injury wasn’t completely healed. I never wanted to make an excuse, so I played thru it. And when I got beat on a play I gave credit where credits due. You’ll never catch me say I didn’t play well because my knee. Because I don’t believe that, but I was restricted at times. Last year was the most frustrating year for me, those who know me knew I was affected by it. I didn’t want to leave the house, and all I was thinking about is playing better each week. But that never happened for me. And this is a BIG part of what drives me everyday.”
Browner’s market has been non-existent to this point in the offseason and the breadth of his problems last year make it hard to think that will change now that he’s talking about the knee injury. Someone always needs a cornerback, so Browner could get another look at some point but no one should hold their breath for that interest to materialize.
