DE Jason Jones visits Dolphins

Free agent defensive end Jason Jones visited the Dolphins Friday, a league source told PFT.

The Dolphins showed interest in Jones early in the free agency period last month. Jones also visited the Cowboys in late March.

Jones, 29, spent the last three seasons with the Lions. He’s played multiple positions across the defensive line in his eight-year career, which started when the Titans picked him in the second round in 2008.

Jones started 31 games over the last two seasons for the Lions and had 9.5 sacks during that time.

  1. They need the most help on Defense, they are stacking the line with veteran players and will use the draft to get young corners , LBs and DE’s to back up and learn from one of the top D-Line units in the NFL.

  2. Hmm maybe there going to start using D lineman on the O line? The sad part is it would probably be an upgrade. Sick of watching the guards get pushed into RT lap but now I’ve just accepted that my team will finish with around 6 wins. Maybe it will be a good year and go 8-8

  3. Ummm.. They lost 3 players on the Defensive line to Free Agency and they were near the bottom in Run Stopping anyway, hence the reason they sucked. Paying a boatload to Suh only works when he has a talent around him.

As for the typical misinformed, they did sign Bushrod and Urbrik to play Guard and have Jamil Douglas and possibly Billy Turner if he can adapt to a new system. I don’t even like typing Dallas Thomas’ name. Pretty sure they will draft some OLne, but you don’t pay $5M for a Guard in FA ( especially with the way the Dolphins used FA the past few years. Ithink they learned the lesson) and it is a waste to get one with #13 and #42. The OLine might be better with the same personnel in a different system. If you don’t know that… You don’t really understand football.

  4. All of you whiny, gloom-n-doom half-hearted fans just go follow someone else. Every time the man does something that betters our team (either through skill or depth) you all complain if it isn’t O-line. Free agency isn’t even over, the draft hasn’t happened and y’all are calling our season. They should have an “IDIOT” button on here…

  5. Lol! So a washed up tackle (bushrod) and a mediocre guard/center (urbrik) to add to the stable of guards who have shown they can’t play at a high level in the league and I’m supposed to be optimistic? I’ll be optimistic when Ross sells the team and the front office is cleaned out. There my team but there also one of the poorest run teams and that cannot be disputed.

  6. So you don’t pay a guard 5mil to protect the qb you just paid but you back the brinks truck up for suh which in turn hamstrings you from improving a roster that needs to be overhauled? Thats a good plan to you? Maybe Ross will hire you as an advisor to tannebaum

  7. hopefully Gase is a guard whisperer as well.

How can anyone NOT like this comment….please pick me apart on this comment! Oh and the fact that Lamar Miller left…because of the Suh signing….I have been a fins fan for 31 years so…..do your worst.

YES! So dumb……He doesnt throw, run, or catch the ball. He doesn’t get int’s or sacks…I get it you need run stoppers etc but none of them are worth this kind of money….Paul Soliai was 10 times better than him…..AND CHEAPER…..rather have Paul and the 3-4 back….

30 plus years of being a dolphin fan. Osemele is gone. Suh is WAY OVERPAID. We could have Knighton, Starks, and Soliai right now….FOR LESS. The idiot button would be for you……press it all you want. Lamar Miller is still gone too….wow.

  10. Is he bigger stronger faster? (Gase motto)

Olivier Vernon left for more guaranteed money than Ryan Tannehill.

The team has stated looking in the draft for o-line help. I would like them to go guard round 3 if a good one is there.

  11. Is there any structure with this organization? It’s going on 16 years since a playoff win.

    Democracy or dictatorship?

  13. Not only are they targeting the defensive line way too much but they’re hammering away at the defensive end position over and over and over again I mean holy crap how many defensive ends do they need to talk to before they find one. That’s all I see is people coming in and people leaving without a contract that’s all it ever is

  14. Hey, you cryin, ummm do you seriously think that year somebody who should be talking crap about the Dolphins based on who your team is I mean seriously??

  15. I guess some of the people here go and vote, please do us all a good deed and stay home this go round. Bill

  16. The Carolina Panthers proved you can’t have too many D-Lineman. The Dolphins need depth on the edges because without depth the D-line is going to continue to melt down in December.
