New Browns coach Hue Jackson knew questions from reporters about the status of the No. 2 pick in next week’s NFL Draft were coming after his team’s voluntary minicamp practice Tuesday, and Jackson had his answer ready.

He told those reporters he wasn’t going to talk about it and told them that draft questions should be directed to Sashi Brown, the new executive vice president of football operations for the Browns.

Brown will meet with reporters Friday, at which he point he probably won’t talk about the Browns trading down. It’s just that time of year.

NFL Network reported Tuesday morning that Brown and the Browns were initiating talks and actively shopping the No. 2 pick. Though Jackson’s history would indicate he’ll be heavily involved in anything the Browns do involving quarterbacks, he’s not saying anything.

“My No. 1 job is to improve the players who are here,” Jackson said.

Jackson was later asked if the Browns have reached a consensus on which of the top quarterbacks they prefer, Carson Wentz or Jared Goff.

It’s still early,” he said.

Nine days is a long time, sort of. And the Browns don’t go on the clock until after the Rams pick at No. 1, so it is still early. Sort of. The Rams aren’t giving anything away, neither are the Browns, and if the Browns do line up a trade it might not be until closer to the draft or even during the draft.

So, it’s still early for Jackson. He has minicamp practices to coach.
