Chris Baker’s got jokes, wants to make sure there’s money left over

For Washington General Manager Scot McCloughan, throwing all the money at cornerback Josh Norman was a bit out of character.

And don’t think his players didn’t recognize that as well.

Via Scott Allen of the Washington Post, defensive lineman Chris Baker crashed the press conference at the team facility, and managed to get the final question in.

“All the guys love the signing, but guys want to know, is there any more money left for guys like, uh, Chris Baker or Jordan Reed?” Baker said, unable to keep a straight face.

“I’ve got you Bake, you’ll be all right,” McCloughan replied.

Norman signed a five-year, $75 million deal. Baker is going into the final year of a three-year, $9 million deal.

And while it was all fun and games yesterday, Washington has otherwise taken a hard line on a number of negotiations. Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton went back and forth with them, even visiting the team he had already played for. But when they wouldn’t meet his number, he was on to New England.

But from Baker to franchise-tagged quarterback Kirk Cousins, there are going to be a number of Washington players keeping a serious eye on the way McCloughan spends his money moving forward.
