Defensive end/linebacker Matt Shaughnessy was out of the league in 2015 after being released by the Cardinals just before the start of the regular season, but that’s not keeping him from looking for a job this season.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints will have Shaughnessy in for a workout this weekend.
Shaughnessy started 19 games for the Cardinals over the 2013 and 2014 seasons and had 53 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. He was a starter for the Raiders before making the move to Arizona and set a career high with seven sacks for Oakland during the 2010 season.
The Saints have added several new pieces to their defense this offseason in hopes of avoiding a repeat of last year’s dismal performance. If Shaughnessy shows well on the field this weekend, he could get a longer stay as part of that effort in New Orleans.
