Doug Baldwin doesn’t “value worrying” about possible contract extension

When the Seahawks passing game took off in the second half of last season, wide receiver Doug Baldwin was one of the players leading the charge.

Baldwin had 31 catches for 345 yards and two touchdowns through the eighth game of the season, but closed with 47 catches, 724 yards and 12 touchdowns in the final eight weeks to finish with career highs across the board. With Baldwin peaking on the field on his way into the final year of his contract, there’s been some external talk about an extension that would keep Baldwin on the team beyond 2016.

Baldwin said in early April that he had not had any discussions with the team and told Jim Trotter of ESPN that he’s not losing any sleep about anything he might hear from General Manager John Schneider.

“I didn’t sign my new deal until almost June last time, so the offer is going to come,” Baldwin said. “John pretty much told me that the offer was going to come after the draft. Even if it doesn’t come, I’m not worried about it. Why not? Because there are other things I value in life. I don’t value worrying about that.”

Baldwin doesn’t expect the Seahawks to have the ball in the air as much as they did down the stretch last season, something that would keep him from matching the “raw numbers” of last season. Baldwin’s focus is going to be on staying “as efficient as I was” in 2015, something that would leave him well-positioned to grab a new contract if he doesn’t snag one before the year is out.
