One of the big questions hanging over the Bears at this time last year had to do with whether quarterback Jay Cutler could show improvement in his 10th NFL season.
Cutler provided an affirmative response, helping offensive coordinator Adam Gase land a job as the head coach of the Dolphins in the process. That leaves Cutler to play with his sixth offensive coordinator since coming to Chicago, although Dowell Loggains says there won’t be dramatic changes to the way things work in Chicago after his move up the ladder from quarterbacks coach.
Loggains also thinks neither he nor Gase deserves credit for the step in the right direction that Cutler took in 2015 and that the quarterback has even more room to grow this season.
“I don’t think Adam or I should take the credit,” Loggains said, via ESPN.com. “I think Jay made the choice to improve and work on the things that we asked him to work on. And I hope that process continues. I’m looking forward to coaching him every day and continuing the process we’ve made and build off that where we ended last year, but we definitely could be better.”
Along with continuity in the scheme, the Bears hope to have Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White healthy at wideout this time around. Their presence would provide further reason to believe the team’s passing game can be more successful than the one Cutler fronted last season.
