Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio doesn’t think first-round pick Leonard Floyd’s weight is an issue, but others in the organization are concerned enough about the linebacker not being too light that they’re working with him to make sure he’s the right size.

Fangio said that Floyd is expected to play somewhere between 230-235 pounds during his rookie season and Floyd says that the team has provided him with a nutrition plan centered on eating a lot to get him to the desired weight. Floyd said that the plan instructs him to eat “every couple hours.”

“I’ve got prompts set up on my phone of times in the day that I’m supposed to eat,” Floyd said, via ESPN.com. “I [have to] make sure I eat at the times when I get the alarm. ... Weight bar, protein shake, sandwich, anything … as long as I eat a lot of it.”

While Floyd is focusing on keeping his weight up off the field, he’s focusing on playing outside linebacker only on the field after moving around while at Georgia. Floyd says the shift has “allowed me to play fast” at practice and a continuation of that in the regular season will work well for the Bears no matter what the scale says.
