When the offseason began, it was unclear if cornerbacks Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr would be back with the Cowboys in 2016.
Claiborne was set for free agency after four years filled with injuries and ineffective play when healthy while Carr was carrying a $9.1 million base salary that was ripe for a “pay cut or get cut” ultimatum. Carr took the pay cut option and Claiborne re-signed for one year and $3 million, assuring both would be back.
The Cowboys met with several free agent corners, but didn’t sign any of them and that appears to set both players up for sizable roles in the 2016 defense. Carr said Tuesday that he and Claiborne are also sharing the same approach to the coming season.
“It feels good to have my brother with me, man,” Carr said, via ESPN.com. “Similar mindsets. We both have chips on our shoulders. Got some unfinished business right now.”
You could throw Orlando Scandrick into the group of cornerbacks with something to prove as he returns from last year’s torn knee ligaments and the ability of the entire group to rise to the occasion will help determine how well the Cowboys fare in their attempt to close out their unfinished business from last year.
