Shipped out of Washington this week, receiver Andre Roberts will head to Buffalo to look for work.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Roberts is visiting the Bills tonight and tomorrow. Roberts has two more visits lined up after that, although it’s possible that the Bills could get a deal done before the next team has a chance to meet with him.

Roberts signed a four-year, $16 million contract in 2014, but he was cut this week after playing two years and making $8 million in Washington. In his first season Roberts had less involvement in the offense than expected, finishing the season with 36 catches for 453 yards. Last year he was a non-factor, with just 11 catches for 135 yards before he was lost for the season with a knee injury in Week 11. This year he would have been, at best, fourth on the depth chart behind DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and first-round draft pick Josh Doctson, and he was due a base salary of $4 million, so the decision to cut him was no surprise.

Roberts had his best season in 2012 with the Cardinals, when he caught 64 passes for 759 yards and five touchdowns. At age 28, perhaps some other NFL team will think he still has the potential to return to that level of production, and he might draw interest because of his ability to return punts and kickoffs.

In Buffalo Roberts would join a Bills depth chart that isn’t as crowded as it would have looked at the start of the offseason: Top receiver Sammy Watkins is out with a broken bone in his foot, Percy Harvin has retired and Marquise Goodwin is expected to miss training camp while going for gold in the long jump in the Olympics.
