Architects say San Diego “convadium” idea won’t work

Before bolting San Diego for L.A., the Chargers are trying one last time to make things work in their hometown since 1961. Despite a much greater sense of optimism than the Chargers had a year ago regarding a stadium deal in San Diego, others don’t feel so positive about the prospect of a “convadium” -- a joint convention center and stadium.

Via Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, a group of architects believe that a combination of cost overruns and space limitations make a downtown venue impractical, both as to parking and traffic.

If these concerns gain traction and make the convadium option unworkable, the Chargers could pivot back to the city’s preferred location of Mission Valley. Or they could just go to L.A.

Either way, the voters will decide the team’s future in November.
