Mark Davis reiterates his commitment to Las Vegas

Mark Davis Meets With Nevada Tourism Officials About Moving Raiders To Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV - APRIL 28: Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis arrives at a Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee meeting at UNLV on April 28, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Davis told the committee he is willing to spend USD 500 million as part of a deal to move the team to Las Vegas if a proposed USD 1.3 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium is built by casino magnate Sheldon Adelson’s Las Vegas Sands Corp. and real estate agency Majestic Realty, possibly on a vacant 42-acre lot a few blocks east of the Las Vegas Strip recently purchased by UNLV. Raiders owner Mark Davis is focused on moving his team to Las Vegas. So focused that, even if an Oakland stadium plan were to instantly emerge, Davis wouldn’t stop trying to take the team to Las Vegas.

“No, I would not, and I’ve made that clear,” Davis told the Las Vegas Review-Journal during a Friday visit to a 105-degree Sin City. “The opportunity came up in Las Vegas, and we’re giving it full bore. This is not a pawn in a game. We are serious.”

The question is whether the local taxpayers are serious.

“The main thing is finding out if the public contribution is going to be there,” Davis said. “Whatever private money is needed, we’ll come up with that.”

Last month, Davis said that a Las Vegas move would “unite the Raider nation,” and that he’ll make the move to Nevada if the project comes together financially.

Still, while Davis may not flinch if Oakland blinks, other owners might. If enough do, Davis could have a hard time getting official permission to relocate to Las Vegas.
