Report: Talib told others he shot himself

Maybe Aqib Talib wasn’t too drunk to know who shot him, after all.

Mike Klis of 9news.com in Denver reports that the Broncos cornerback has told people close to him that he accidentally shot himself.

Police are still investigating the situation. It’s believed Talib was shot at a Dallas night club, where two others were shot. According to WFAA in Dallas, Talib told police he was “hanging out at a park with friends” when he was shot early Sunday.

Regardless of how it happened, it happened. Klis reports that the Broncos expect Talib to miss the rest of the offseason program.

As of Sunday night, the Broncos didn’t believe that Talib will be facing charges. However, former NFL receiver Plaxico Burress knows all about the consequences of shooting himself in the leg, thanks to strict laws in New York City regarding the possession of a concealed weapon.

The fact that Plaxico went to prison for shooting himself possibly is a factor in Talib’s alcohol-related amnesia. It would be unfortunate if: (1) the relevant Texas laws don’t impose criminal liability upon Talib for shooting himself; and (2) telling an untrue story to the police eventually does.

  1. This is gold. I love this world we live in where over paid athletes shoot themselves on accident. What a time to be alive.

  2. why would you tell ANYONE if that’s the case? you know good and well they don’t make stand up guys anymore and haven’t in quite some time….if this is true Talib deserves whatever he gets….do your dirt all by your lonely and take info like this to the grave w/ u

  3. In Talib’s defense, maybe he was “standing his ground” when he shot himself.

  4. The difference in guns laws from NYC to Texas can’t even be compared. Most counties in Texas allow open carry. Beyond that, I think I’ll wait for facts.

  5. Texas has gun control laws? I thought they started handing them out to people when they’re still in their cribs down there….

  6. So he did Plaxicoed himself after all. this is getting funnier by the minute.

  7. No matter how this turns out, Talib gets a gold medal for stupidity. Anyone who gets drunk while in possession of a weapon deserves jail time automatically, in my view.
Talib should consider himself very lucky that he didn’t shoot someone else.
The good news for Talib is that he will never have to worry about CTE, because you have to have a brain to get that.

  8. For all of you that are completely misinformed regarding Texas gun laws; You have to have a permit to carry a handgun, which requires taking classes and passing a FBI background check.

  9. I don’t really care of Talib shot himself, but what about the other two guys? Also, the gun laws in Texas don’t you have to carry a gun?

  10. If there are witnesses who place him at that club after he told police he was in a park then Talib will be in a world of trouble legally and with the NFL.

  11. Well, if he shot the other 2 dudes too (likely), he should seek some legal advice from Marvin Harrison.

  12. But it’s not a fact that Plaxico went to prison for shooting himself. Actually, his guilty plea was related to the illegal possession of a firearm (which the authorities learned about after he shot himself with it).

  13. How is this moron allowed to carry a gun after multiple gun incidents…I realize Texas is not part of the civilized world but this is crazy…the only thing going for him is he is no longer a Patriot so the serial liar Goodell will probably only come back with a minor fine.

  14. There are several ways he could be in real trouble here in Texas:

    1. If he doesn’t have a license to carry a concealed weapon.

    2. If he discharged it illegally.

    3. Actually #1 – with a bullet – it’s illegal to carry in an establishment with a TABC liquor license.

This fool got lotsa splainin’ to do.

  15. I loved Talib when he was in NE. He brought a toughness to the defense. He stayed out of trouble here. I remember 1 time he lost it against Steve Smith Jr. He lost his cool in that game. Then he gets to Denver and acts like a punk on the field and off the field. I lost a lot of respect for him when he stuck his finger in another players eye. He claimed it was and accident. He seems to be making lots of mistakes now.

  16. Florio:

Serious question, why would you want a state to make it a crime to accidentally shoot yourself? Perhaps you mean it should be a crime to discharge or even pull a weapon while drunk, except in self defense, then I would agree.

Texas is the Wild West of gun control. But God forbid you try to open up a casino.
    ===================================

Casino ownership isn’t a constitutional right.

  18. You can’t make this stuff up even if you wanted to. My head hurts from shaking it so hard in disbelieve of these players.

    Cant fix stupid!
    ———————-

    He tried!

  20. The good news for him is if you had to pick a state to do something bad with a gun, Texas would be choice #1.

  21. Something is not right. I don’t care how drunk I am, I’d know how in the heck I got shot if that happened. I think he’s mixed up with some bad people who kill snitches.

  22. You can’t deny his talent on the field, or his stupidity off the field. This is why Tampa moved on from him.

  23. Why did he have a gun? Doesn’t matter if it is legal or not. Let his bodyguard carry and stay sober. I hope that he would have one given the cash he makes.

Why are so many football players sketchy

    —————

    Take a Type A personality.

Identify them at an early age as an elite talent

Stroke their ego at every age

Provide them access to free top tier education

support their misogynistic behavior caused by woman throwing themselves at them.

Despite their bad behaviour always bail them out due to their talent and possible earning potential.

pay them millions of dollars at 21 years old.

    Watch.

  26. “It’s believed Talib was shot at a Dallas night club, where two others were shot.”
Okay, if that’s true, that kinda begs the question… if Talib shot himself, who shot the “two others”? I mean, you’d think the guy who we’re sure had a gun (since he shot himself with it), would at least be a person of interest. Of course, it is Texas, so there were probably more guns than people in whatever night club this was…

  27. April 6, 2016….””I did (talk to Osweiler about free agency),” Talib said, “What I do, I tell the young guys – young guys like Malik (Jackson) and Brock – I tell them it’s not always greener on the other side. I’ve been on the other side before. It may look like $100 million but after about two 3-13 seasons, that whole contract is gone. There’s a whole new staff in there. Once the guaranteed money is all gone, it ain’t really what it look like. I gave him fair warning, man.”………………………………

Feel free to insert all kind of jokes in behalf of Einstein Talib please!

  28. Texas doesn’t even crack top 15 in guns per capita, yes they are first in total number of guns (California is second) but are behind states like Virginia,D.C, Maryland and New Hampshire in per capita.

  29. Always wise to keep one in the chamber, in your waistband and then get liquored up. Through the top of his thigh and out of his calf. Regardless of talent, nobody is worth employing if they’re this dumb…and he has a long list of stupid moves.

  30. You’re a multimillionaire, and you are hanging out in a park at night? Was the street corner not an option?

  31. Didn’t Talib and his mom go out shooting at his sister’s boyfriend several years back?
I don’t remember the details….I just remember thinking, “What a lovely family”.

When everyone has a gun, we will all be safer. Right NRA?

  32. Sounds to me he’s protecting who really shot him…if the rumor (notice I said rumors) are true that he’s in a gang…he probably wants to “take care of the situation” himself.

  33. Aqib is a good kid, cut him some slack.
It’s not like he smoked weed or anything bad like that.

  34. You can more or less tell when someone shoots themselves. Powder burn graze wound to the upper thigh or in and out. Happens all the time.

Plaxico went to jail for Illegal firearms possession AND for shooting himself as was also charged with reckless endangerment.

  35. Too drunk to control a deadly weapon yet he is carrying one in a public place. Thank God he didn’t injure someone else.

How do we preserve the right to bear arms but keep drunken idiots from running around packing? Again thank God he didn’t shoot someone else even by accident.

  36. He could still catch charges if he had the gun in the strip club. You can’t have firearms in establishments that serve alcohol. Maybe that’s why there’s conflicting reports on where it actually happened.

Why is it that guys like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, JJ Watt are never spotted at a strip bar at 3 am?
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Because they have the “entertainment” delivered to their home so they don’t have to be out in da club.

They have da club at da crib!

  38. Never…ever discount the word on the street!! My son told me Sunday night he had been reading on twitter since the story broke that he shot himself.

    —————————–
And let’s make it where only criminals and cops have guns… Sound great! And let’s ban cars too!

  40. I’m very concerned about Talib because this is his second gun-related incident in Dallas over the past 5 years.

In 2011, he had a gun incident involving his sister’s boyfriend.

With him, it seems like Dallas is where a lot of trouble occurs and this gives an opposite effect of “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

With Talib, unfortunately, “What happens in Dallas goes outside of Dallas.”

  41. wait…so you think it will be unfortunate if he doesn’t get in trouble with the law and maybe face the possibility of prison for this? what does that say about you? if he shot himself he’s a moron. and lying to the police is “against the law” but everyone does it to protect themselves when need be. he didn’t shoot anyone else as far as we know. and if he did, indeed, lie to the police at least he didn’t point the finger at someone else to take the blame. he said he didn’t know who it was. so he hurt no one but himself in this situation. we all know he has had issues with the nfl and the law, but as far as i know he has never been convicted of any crime which means he could legally carry a weapon if he so chose. as long as he the laws in texas don’t make it illegal for him to have had the gun, and taking into consideration he was the only victim of his actions as far as we know then another man hoping he get in legal trouble for this is some completely weak stuff. men who worry about and wish bad upon other men aren’t real men. you should embarrassed of yourself

  42. Shooting yourself is bad enough. Then you go tell someone you did especially after what happened to Plaxico. Shut your mouth….geez

    ——

No more sketchy than the average young man who has millions of dollars at his disposal. Look at all of the trust fund babies, children of hollywood actors, who are up on drug charges / sexual assault / etc. Give a young guy money/fame… see a segment of them implode.

  44. Bucs fans have known this guy was trash since 2009 when he punched a cab driver in the head from the backseat, totally unprovoked, while he was driving. The cab driver had not said one word to Aqib. His teammates in the car we’re freaking out telling Aqib he was trying to kill them all.

  45. This offseason has to be one of the worst ever for a team who’s just won a ring. What I can’t wait for is the revelation that previously-busted substance abuser/PED users were back on the juice for yet another tainted Bronco title…

    ———

WRONG, son! He went to prison for ILLEGALLY carrying and discharging a gun within the City – where the law forbids it.

  47. Better to plax yourself than to JPP yourself – assuming it’s a non-critical plaxing.

  48. you should embarrassed of yourself

2 other people were also shot….doubtful a coincidence. And he did lie, because he was at the club when he got shot but then it was somehow at the park. Even though he was at a club….Like I’ll believe a millionaire in his late 20s hangs out at the skate park.

How about you stop making excuses for criminals. Real men are accountable for their actions. Weak men make excuses for them

  49. Jun 6, 2016 11:23 PM – bullcharger says: If he hadn’t of shot himself would he be going to jail? No. He went to prison for shooting himself.

Non sequitur. That’s like saying that no one goes to prison for committing crimes – only for getting caught. Burress got caught when he shot himself, but he went to prison because he illegally had a gun in the club.

  50. He doesn’t belong in the league. It’s time the league gets rid of those with “character issues”….

  51. Those saying that there are no gun laws in Texas don’t know what they’re talking about.

Sure, we now have ‘Open Carry’ which means you can carry an exposed handgun. You still have to have a CHL in order to do so.

You most definitely cannot carry a handgun while under the influence and I believe you are not allowed to carry handguns inside of establishments licensed to serve alcohol.

If he shot himself while drunk at a strip club with no CHL he committed several felonies. He’s better of sticking to his story.

    1) You mean if he hadn’t HAVE shot himself.
    2) You clearly missed the point. It was DISCOVERED that he had an illegal weapon and LIED to the police, because he shot himself.

He did NOT get charged with “shooting self.”

He went to prison after pleading guilty to “one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon.”

Kinda silly, to take one accidental shooting and try to defend taking away gun rights.
Sooner or later, the gun control folks will be in a situation where they are threatened and they will call on somebody with a gun to protect them, whether that person is a policeman or a neighbor or a complete stranger.
