Free agent quarterback Johnny Manziel apparently eventually plans to end his party tour and try to return to the NFL.
Manziel’s attorney, Jim Darnell, told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that Manziel’s “immediate plans are to start getting ready for football.”
The pictures that have popped up on social media since the Browns released Manziel in March indicate he’s not in playing shape, and Fowler’s story also cites a source close to Manziel as saying a return to the NFL in 2017 is probably “more feasible.”
A family friend told Fowler that Manziel’s parents are “just sick” over their son’s actions.
“I hope someone kicks the s--- out of the kid and forces him to get right,” the unnamed friend said.
Though Manziel could be signed by a team at any time, he could also face punishment under the league’s personal conduct policy with domestic abuse charges from a January incident involving his ex-girlfriend still pending. The NFL investigated Manziel last fall after an incident with the same woman but did not punish him.
In the last several months Manziel has also been sued over trashing a rental house and dumped by two agents, Nike and the marketing company owned by LeBron James. It appears Manziel is still out having a good time without having much in the way of a care or a clue.
Even if Manziel gets in football shape and the pending legal charges are resolved, it still figures to be difficult to find a team that would actually take him on.
