Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is staying out of politics, for now.

With Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wanting Roethlisberger to speak on Trump’s behalf at the upcoming convention, Roethlisberger says he won’t be doing that.

The veteran signal-caller told Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that, while Trump is an acquaintance, Roethlisberger won’t be speaking for him or endorsing him.

Roethlisberger added that Trump has called to congratulate Roethlisberger after certain Steelers games.

It’s a smart move by Roethlisberger. With the general election likely to be one of the most hotly-contested and contentious races in American history, Roethlisberger gains nothing by publicly taking a side. Especially if he ends up taking the wrong side.
