Getty ImagesThe Eagles and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox have agreed to a contract extension that includes the largest guarantee for a player other than a quarterback in NFL history, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday.
Per Schefter, it’s a six-year extension worth up to $103 million with $63 million guaranteed.
Cox, 25, went to his first Pro Bowl last season. He hasn’t missed a game over the last three seasons while becoming one of the most dominant interior players in the game. Cox had 9.5 sacks last season and has 22 over his four-year career.
The Eagles confirmed on their official Twitter account that the sides have agreed to an extension. Cox had one season left on his previous deal.
Well deserved! Those are my Bills he thrashed in the pic above. He ate Incognito’s lunch that day.
Straight beast!
Kid is better then Suh Lets all hope he does not take the money and run.
63 million guaranteed???? LMAO! that’s Philly for you..
This contract begins another 8 year run in which Philly will win no fewer than 5 SBs in the next 8 years.
Seems like a trend in the NFL now. They get paid and in within two years just disappear. And that’s with few exceptions.
Welcome big guy now win baby, just win.
I know he’s good, but that’s a lot of $
Good news for Fletcher Cox, bad news for my Giants and the rest of the NFC East. Actually it’s worse for the Cowgals ever since Cox pointed out that their vaunted O-line is not that good, and he has been proving it ever since.
Guy is a stud. Congrats Eagles & Philly fans. You got a good one for the foreseeable future.
Von Miller’s price tag just went way up.
Wow as a cowboys fan I am stoked! Eat up all that cap space for the next 6 years!
One less distraction. Go get ’em.
The guy is one of the great young DL in the league, but DTs seem to get into a funk cashing in, Haynseworth, and Suh, seemed to not be the same.
While I don’t believe he will fall off as much as those other guys. The position is SO hard to produce at a high level to make a fan base or media say… Yeah he was totally worth 60 million gur.
I like the dude but I have to imagine this deal may put them in cap hell if he doesn’t produce
This guy is amazing. Glad to see him locked up for the next few years.
Don’t be jelly…
looks like Denver and Miller have alot more negotiating to do now.
Mo Wilkerson must be smiling
Lets not go Albert Hainsworth now with the big fat guaranteed payday.
@Big Blue On You
Nice to see a rival be able to point out and appreciate talent on another team without resorting to child-like name calling. I salute you sir. Should be an interesting year in the NFCE.
You take care of your key guys when they produce for you. Cox had a year left on his contract and for Philly to decide to give their home grown talent a monster deal rather than force him into the Franchise tag nonsense says a lot to every player on the roster. You hear that John Elway?
They can afford this because once they let Bradford walk they have a cheap starting quarterback for 4 years.
Reggie White. Jerome Brown. Fletcher Cox.
Smart move. Especially since you have Wentz who won’t eat up too much of the cap space for the next 4 years. Lets just hope he pans outs.
@Big blue on you.. It was actually Benny Ligan that said Cowboys line wasn’t that good.. And He and Fletcher have proved it four games in a row now.
I thought Eagles fans were smarter than to believe this was a good idea. Absolutely terrible contract for the Egales. Eagles are just chalk full of garbage decisions.
once again Phili drives up the price for marquis players on other teams by overpaying mediocre players on their own team.
I’ll never knock NFL players for getting every last cent. Good for Cox and his family.
That said, Philly’s front office better hope this works out; this is the type of deal on which you just can’t afford to miss.
It’s a no-brainer and worth every penny. He’s proved it on the field.
Big contracts for DT’s Always work out!!
suhmonster90 ,
Oddly enough the situation that Denver already is in, but leave it to fanboys of the team to tell you why Miller should take what he can get. Oh, and btw the people talking about this will wreck Philly’s cap, you do know that by the end of this deal or at least by the time the guaranteed part is done, the cap will be worth quite a bit more. It’s kind of the same thing going on in the NBA, these teams are making a lot more money than expected from their TV contracts that they didn’t anticipate, so they need to get to spreading it around to the people who are the reason anyone is watching their product, i.e. their best players, which Miller and Cox are respectively for these 2 teams. Philly did the right thing, let’s see if the Broncos follow suit. Also, with everyone bringing up Haynesworth, Philly has a guy who got paid for his production before finally slowing down in Trent Cole who was even better after the big money. So that might be a better guy to look back on instead of grasping at the outlier from a whole other organization.
Too much $$$ for one position, hurts the team!
Somewhere in Denver or Miami Von Miller is smiling. The Eagles just screwed over Denver big time. If Cox is getting 63million guaranteed then wow Miller should get his 70.
Eagles fans finally have something to smile about, other than cheese steaks.
I assume the Eagles will purchase an insurance policy in the event he blows out a ( insert knee, back etc) and is unable to play. With those $$$ on the contract it would make sense. Won’t help the cap charge but the Eagles bank account.
My biggest concern with these contracts is that Goodell will start complaining that he is underpaid.
Von Miller wants 75 mill guaranteed now. Let that sink in
Hope he works out because the Eagles won’t be replenishing through the draft in the next two years.
The Eagles (or any NFL team) wouldn’t hand out contracts like this if they couldn’t afford it. These teams get so much money in TV revenue that they’re rolling in it. Whether or not Cox is worth that much money is another matter. I guess we’ll find out.
while becoming one of the most dominant interior players in the game.
Except he wasn’t an interior player under Chip. They played a 3-4 and he was a DE.
Lol he gets more then what the Broncos offered Von Miller, really? That’s ridiculous, he’s good but he isn’t close to the level of Von Miller. Haha you should have taken less and went to a team that is a contender. Enjoy winning nothing in Philly. Everyone knows the Redskins are just beginning their run of the NFC East.
Given what the Eagles paid Bradford, this is a bargain.
no defensive tackle is worth that…
Good for Fletch. There’s never been a 3 tech that’s ever been worth this $$. $63 guaranteed is for guys like JJ Watt & Von Miller.
Cox is an excellent football player but you pay that kind of coin, you better have a game wrecker. Cox is excellent but not a monumental game changer.
I live in Philly & can’t think of a splash play by Fletch. Eagle fans? You have one?

________________
It’s only because you can’t see past your own AFC team you aren’t aware he is a true stud. How typical of fanboys that they can call a player that was an All-Pro the last 2 years mediocre. It’s unfortunate that your Broncos didn’t have the foresight to lock up Miller like Philly has done with Cox but that hardly justifies dissing him out of bitterness. He doesn’t have Miller’s injury history and has no substance abuse issue muddying the waters. The kid is a straight up beast and that’s coming from a Giants fan.
dominant and getting better each and every year, worth every guaranteed dollar, for those who moaned why haven’t the birds signed this stud and now are saying why did they sign this stud for so much, watch the game before you speak, this guy is a BEAST
I am glad that he got paid because I watched games where Cox was basically the whole defensive line and he was blowing up runs and getting pressure on the QB.
One of the best DT in football and now he is paid like it. Elway was trying to do Von Miller dirty with that low guaranteed money.
There’s a reason that team has never won a super bowl.
Hail
Haha. Awful deal for Philly. Somewhere Von Miller is smiling. If that chump can get that think what a real player could get. Haynesworth money. Fletcher has a lazy side

Haynesworth and Suh were both of questionable character before signing their megadeals. Cox from all reports is a good guy.
Its a good deal all the way around. Obviously judging by some comments fans outside the division don’t know who Fletcher Cox is but they will find out. Ten sacks for a guy playing in a non attack style of 3/4 defense is exceptional. With Jim Schwartz’s wide nine those numbers will only increase.
“He hasn’t missed a game over the last three seasons…”
—————-
Do not overlook this factor in the least in why he’s cashing in so big. The best ability is availability and in an age where so many young players seem to lack the conditioning, mental toughness and/or just plain good luck to even put 8 or 10 games together, Cox has done it for 3 seasons. That is special and deserves rewarding.
Cox is legit. The rest of the Eagles… meh.
Congrats on finding a way to put mega-extension and cox in the same headline.
No wonder that it’s so expensive to go to a game.

Statement 1 : Wrong cause if no other team takes braford. (which none are interested and might probably never be then they are still stuck with his contract “cap space hurter”
which brings me to the next poster..
Statement 2 : Wrong no matter how much money TV ratings commercals and other things get the cap space is the same no matter if the team brings in 100billion $ or 10million cap space is a seprate thing and it will hurt the team big time if he doesnt produce
this is how franchises stay in cap hell
awful contract
New Eagles GM is done overpaying for backup QBs and has now started overpaying for DEs
Your 2016 Philadelphia Eagles:
3 QBs
1 DT
& a pack of Cub Scouts (cuz that’s all they can afford)
I think Cox is top notch – better defensive player than Von Miller – but the Eagles seem to have a very strange idea about structuring a team. And this is an improvement over Kelly?
63M guaranteed, one probowl…..
Money well spent….I guess….well, at least now he is not going to change his name to “Felcher” Cox.
I was aware of him but not aware he was worth so much. I’ll be paying closer attention now.

I thought it was CHOCK full of garbage decisions.
What do I know though? I’m just a dumb Eagles fan.
osweiler and miller , anyone ?
……pay your guyz ! you’re rolling in dough !
