Tom Brady won’t appear at Republican convention to support Donald Trump

AP

Tom Brady now has something in common with Mike Ditka.

Despite being close to presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump, the Patriots quarterback will not appear at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland later this month, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

That Brady’s steering clear of a potentially polarizing stance is nothing new — he’s practically Teflon when it comes to anything the least bit controversial. But he has said in the past he and Trump are friends, though he was careful to keep the remarks at arm’s length.

Ditka was mooted as a possible convention speaker, but declined Trump’s invitation last week while saying the party “has its head up its a–.”

And yes, we said mooted. Which rhymes with something else Ditka has done while mic’d up.

Let me go on record right now. I will not appear at the Republican convention to support Donald Trump.

So, Republicans exercise discernment in who they support, and judge a man based on the content of his character.

The Democrats, on the other hand, line-up in tow to support whatever dog-and-pony circus candidate they nominate like the good sheeple they are.

  3. araidersfan says: Jul 5, 2016 8:56 AM

Brady is very verbally polished and he’s probably going to pursue a career in politics after he retires. He’s very savvy so he’s not interested in making enemies of either the supporters or opponents of Trump.

Athletes are better off not alienating half of their fans by supporting a political candidate. Its no different than you deciding not to show up at a Hillary fundraiser because of a conflict of interests because of your employer (which you probably do anyway).

Brady is a great player, but I don’t think people would be swayed to support Trump because of him.

He’s a football player. Why does it matter if he supports Trump or not? How does a football player’s political opinion have any more value than any other citizen? In fact Brady probably knows less then other citizens given how focused he is on football. Fame doesn’t make him understand politics. It’s like when actors who play the president on TV suddenly carry weight on politics. It makes no sense.

Trump is just Brady’s ultra rich buddy that lets Brady play on Trump golf courses when ever he wants.

I still don’t know where we got the whole “Brady is a Trump supporter” story. Rich guy is casually friendly with another rich guy, they play golf together, etc, one gives the other a hat with his political slogan (which is catchy, even if the guy’s plan on how to “make America great again” is asinine) and the other puts it in his locker. I don’t think that qualifies as a political endorsement. Not to mention Brady has been asked point blank and declined to do so, while also saying he has little interest in or time to pay attention to politics. I don’t know why everyone is so hellbent on tying Brady in with Trump, that’s crazy.

Brady never sought out an affiliation with Trump of any kind. Trump sought out Brady, because Brady is the winningest guy in America’s favorite sport.

I don’t like Brady, and I really dislike all of his whiny fans and their Sisyphusian quest to respond to every troll in cyberspace.

But Brady has nothing to do with Trump, would never support him politically or even appear with him other than on a golf course. That’s the extent of their connection, everyone who remotely understands the world has known this for a long time, and this is basically a repeat of an article on here from within the last 6-8 weeks, so it is an obvious lazy retread of an article that didn’t need to be written in the first place.

It is Brady and Trump though, two of America’s most polarizing figures, so the lazy writer/staff couldn’t help themselves. Go figure.

    ————————–

He had to fight for playing time at Michigan not because of talent but because there was a bigger name to compete with. As a 6th round draft pick given an opportunity to show what he could do he seized it and has been THE guy ever since. There’s a delicious irony in that scrappy 6th round pick displacing a former #1 overall pick that’s not lost on actual Pats fans. The ice cream you mock is part of a stringent diet and workout regimen that have kept him at the top of his profession even after 15 pro seasons. This ‘everyday’ man appreciates excellence whenever I see it but what I admire is perseverance and commitment. Anybody who has ever busted their butt to get somewhere can identify with that part of Brady’s life. That a troll that hides behind a Pats-centric userid taking random pot shots at a real man can’t understand that is hardly surprising.

    1. Larger government/waste

    2. Debt up to our eyeballs-approaching $20 trillion-putting the US in VERY vulnerable positions in paying back foreign governments for this debt.

    3. A president that has divided our country based on race, political affiliation, and financial success.

    4. A growing terrorist threat that concerns the world now-that could have been essentially neutralized years ago!

    5. A PC United States that now engulfs, for the worse, almost all speech as we know it.

    6. A weaker military-the weakest we have been in 50 years in terms of armament and readiness.

    7.A distrust of our leaders.

This story shows the medicity of the current media who cover sports. First they make up as story “reportedly” stating that Tom Brady (among others) would be speaking for Donald Trump. They do this without ever even asking Brady (or the others if the story is true). It gets repeated by other sources (like this one) and pretty soon it’s getting reported as FACT.

THEN the jackholes in the media have something to comment on for the next week or so, and the haters and supporters both wade in with their comments and the whole things runs it course.

THEN a few weeks later comes the equally made up story that Brady ISN’T going to speak at the convention and once again it gets picked up by the media and the whole cycle starts again.

When are we going to stop being click bait for a self centered media who think THEY are the most important people in sports. When are we going to stop being the fools who fall for this tactic time and time again.

Then again after reading some of ludicrous posts in this thread, maybe there really ARE enough really stupid people in the market to make it make sense for the media to take advantage.
