Word of a new round of contract talks between the Broncos and linebacker Von Miller broke on Friday morning and there’s now some word about one of the chief topics of that conversation.
Ed Werder of ESPN followed up his report about the talks with one about the Broncos altering their offer to Miller. Per Werder, the Broncos are now willing to guarantee the third year of Miller’s deal at an earlier date than the March 2018 date included in past proposals. The amount and nature of that guarantee were reportedly sticking points for Miller during earlier talks.
The Broncos offered Miller a six-year, $114 million deal with $38.5 million guaranteed at signing and another $20 million, guaranteed against injury only, to come in March 2018. It’s uncertain if those numbers have changed along with the date that Miller would receive the second stage of that guaranteed money.
We may find out in the next few days whether there’s been any movement on Miller’s part as a result of the revised offer or if the Broncos will have to come up with something else to get his signature on the dotted line. Without much else to do between now and next Friday’s deadline to sign a long-term deal, there’s plenty of time for those questions to be answered now that the negotiating ball is rolling again.
