Eddie Lacy gets a refresher with Tony Horton before training camp

Eddie Lacy has apparently taken seriously his team’s warnings about his weight, because he went back for a refresher course before he reports to training camp.

According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, the Packers running back went back to trainer Tony Horton recently, after working with the P90X founder earlier this offseason.

Lacy went through two months of workouts with Horton to lose some pounds after coach Mike McCarthy said he “cannot play at the weight he was at [last] year.”

The results were immediate, as Lacy came back to the offseason program around 15 pounds lighter than he was before, though McCarthy suggested in May there might still be some work to be done.

“Eddie will be fine,” McCarthy said in May. “I believe he’ll hit the target that we’re all looking for when the lights come on.”

Getting Lacy back into shape is of obvious importance to the Packers, after his numbers dipped precipitously last year. So going through a grueling variety of workouts which include plyometrics, yoga, cardio, basketball and boxing will hopefully have Lacy ready for camp.

They’d like to see him back to his form from his first two seasons (when he topped 1,100 yards both years and had 20 rushing touchdowns), as having an in-shape Lacy and a healthy Jordy Nelson would be quite a boost for an offense which wasn’t awful without them.
