Moritz Böhringer doesn’t have a car, walks to practice

Many NFL draft picks buy a nice new car as soon as they get their signing bonus. Vikings receiver Moritz Böhringer is different.

Böhringer, a German who became the first player ever drafted directly out of European football, said in an interview with TransferWise that he is choosing not to buy a car and just walk to practice. Böhringer’s American girlfriend is struggling to understand that decision.

“The main reason I walk everywhere is I don’t have a car because I wanted to save money,” he said. “Every morning I just walk to the facility and in the afternoon I walk back. My girlfriend thinks that’s pretty crazy because, like most Americans, she drives everywhere. In Germany it’s very different to the United States in many ways.”

So many NFL players blow their signing bonuses that it’s hard not to commend Böhringer for choosing to be so frugal. However, Böhringer reportedly lives three miles from the Vikings’ practice facility. We’re going to guess that if he makes the roster and is still in Minnesota in December, he won’t still be walking outside for six miles a day.
