Darren Sharper gets 18 years in prison for rape and drug charges

AP

Former NFL safety Darren Sharper’s going away for a long time.

According to the Associated Press, Sharper was sentenced this morning to 18 years in prison for drugging and raping as many as 16 women.

Sharper had pleaded guilty or no contests to the charges across four states, but in federal court in New Orleans this morning, Judge Jane Triche Milazzo sentenced him to the lengthy stay.

Prosecutors had asked for a 9-year term as part of a plea deal across the states of Louisiana, California, Nevada and Arizona. But the judge doubled that for the former Packers, Vikings and Saints safety.

  5. kevjamm says: Aug 18, 2016 11:29 AM

Hopefully the victims sue him and his entire estate so he doesn’t have protection money while locked up as well as anything waiting on him when he is released.

  6. arealisticpackerfan says: Aug 18, 2016 11:29 AM

Doesn’t seem like enough time to me for drugging and raping as many as 16 women.

18 years for 16 women? Still too light.

What a fool. This guy had it all and gave it up for his depravity . I will never understand what this guy was thinking. 16 women? Wow.

  11. seabrawk12 says: Aug 18, 2016 11:31 AM

    16 women?

    He got off easy.

  12. 52crabcakes says: Aug 18, 2016 11:32 AM

18 years for ruining as many as 16 women’s lives, not enough! Maybe he will pay for it in jail!

  13. ezmoover says: Aug 18, 2016 11:33 AM

    “as many as 16 women.”

Why isn’t that life without the chance for parole?

  14. eazeback says: Aug 18, 2016 11:34 AM

far cry from the first lil bit he was gonna get….

  16. harrisonhits2 says: Aug 18, 2016 11:34 AM

Sounds like it should have been more like 180 years if 16 women were victims.

Either way he’s an awful long way from the NFL field these days.

  17. Wisconsin's Favorite Son Jeffrey Be Dahmed says: Aug 18, 2016 11:35 AM

Our Packers taught him everything he knows.

Awesome. Hopefully he can now have the favor returned to him while in the “clink”.

  20. turboreattore says: Aug 18, 2016 11:38 AM

18 years for 16 rapes? He hits the jackpot.

  21. imissedreed says: Aug 18, 2016 11:38 AM

Glad the judge didn’t accept that BS plea deal at least. Still think it should be longer but less than ten would have been a crime in itself.

  22. Wisconsin's Favorite Son Jeffrey Be Dahmed says: Aug 18, 2016 11:38 AM

Sharper is a hero around here. We would’ve let him off, Chmura-style.

  27. firesnyder says: Aug 18, 2016 11:41 AM

A little over 1 year per woman???! WTF?!

  28. hellonewman47 says: Aug 18, 2016 11:42 AM

Should be put away for life, no parole.

Prison sentences need to be harsher in this country.

  29. jimmypx says: Aug 18, 2016 11:43 AM

He was an NFL player with money hence all kinds of women would willingly go out with him. Instead he is a predator who gets his kicks by raping women. 18 years isn’t long enough for him. Hopefully he never gets out !!

  30. dohczeppelin says: Aug 18, 2016 11:44 AM

So he barely gets one year per rape, meanwhile dudes are getting locked up for even longer for non violent drug crimes. It’s difficult to wrap your head around that. This guy should be going under the jail, and non violent drug offenders should be in a controlled rehab and life coaching facility.

  31. wtfchiefs says: Aug 18, 2016 11:45 AM

13.5 months per rape. This is a very lenient, and unreasonable sentence.

  32. ctiggs says: Aug 18, 2016 11:45 AM

Still not long enough, does he have to where that device when he gets out every time he pops one?

  33. thelastwordyaheard says: Aug 18, 2016 11:45 AM

I once shook this scumbag’s hand ..the stink will never wash off.

  34. dolphins4life says: Aug 18, 2016 11:48 AM

Well now it’s his turn to get raped in prison for the next 18 years. Enjoy you massive waste of skin!!!

  35. PriorKnowledge says: Aug 18, 2016 11:49 AM

He pleaded guilty. The prosecutors agreed to this sentence in exchange for his pleading guilty. So the victims would not be forced to testify and be subject to humiliating cross examination

  36. joetoronto says: Aug 18, 2016 11:49 AM

I agree 100% that he should have gotten life with no chance of parol, but hats off to the judge for dismissing the plea deal.

Enjoy being the local b!tch now, Darren. 🙂

How is this not bigger news??? Ol’ Roger is keeping it quiet in the national media…

    1) He is no longer in the NFL

    2) NFL has nothing to do with this. His case is in the US Criminal Justice system. NFL has no role in it.

    3) He is a no name. If this was Manning or Montana, you will have his name in the national media. He wasn’t even that big of a name when he played.

Now you understand or still find a way to blame Roger Goddell when he has nothing to do with this case?

  38. chasezdad16 says: Aug 18, 2016 11:58 AM

They should’ve added another 20 on that sentence, but glad there is some justice being served!

  39. nhpats says: Aug 18, 2016 11:58 AM

So he will ever out one day…..by then he will be just the kind of leader Jerry Jones will want for his Cowboys who will have still not won another playoff game since Sharper’s incarceration….

  40. clashpoint says: Aug 18, 2016 11:59 AM

Rapists are at the bottom of the prisoner hierarchy. I hope he has a full “dance card” with those above him on every day of every year.

  41. honalulublue says: Aug 18, 2016 12:00 PM

Probably paroled in six months. Justice system sucks.

  42. tavisteelersfan says: Aug 18, 2016 12:00 PM

  50. ktoast says: Aug 18, 2016 12:18 PM

respect to that judge for doubling down on his sentence

  51. joshgordonsbong says: Aug 18, 2016 12:28 PM

So he basically got sentenced to 1.1 years of jail per rape victim…..Good job American justice system…..

  58. weepingjebus says: Aug 18, 2016 12:54 PM

  61. austindudero says: Aug 18, 2016 1:06 PM

  67. diveleft says: Aug 18, 2016 1:24 PM

  68. thesteelhurtin says: Aug 18, 2016 1:25 PM

It’s funny when you correct people and they can’t be a man about it and have to report your comment. That’s how you know you embarrassed them.

  89. rajbais says: Aug 19, 2016 5:54 AM

This still is not long enough, but 18 years is better than 9.

  90. qbarrel says: Aug 25, 2016 12:50 PM

The lightness of his sentence defies all logic. He shouldn’t be getting out at all, but if they can’t jail him for life, then he shouldn’t get out until he’s an impotent old man.

  91. packerpauly says: Aug 25, 2016 1:29 PM

When he was a Packer, he was one of my favorite players. I respected him greatly for his on-field talents even after he left Green Bay for the greener pastures of free agency. But this side of him is reprehensible and despicable. I wish that they would have locked him up and thrown away the cell. 18 years seems way too light – the guy should be in the big house for a lot longer than that!
