The Broncos should be getting a key piece of their defense back on the field this week.
Mike Klis of KUSA reports that linebacker DeMarcus Ware will practice for the first time this summer. Ware was placed on the non-football injury list at the start of training camp due to back issues that also kept him out of OTAs and cost him time on the field last season.
Ware said before Saturday’s game that his back is feeling good and he’s felt ready to practice for a while, but the cautious approach at this point in the calendar makes a lot of sense for a 34-year-old whose value to the team is already well known. Klis reports that Ware is not expected to play in either of the team’s remaining preseason games.
The back will likely be something for Ware and the Broncos to manage all season. Thanks to Shane Ray’s presence behind Ware, that’s easier to do without the defense taking a serious hit.
