The Chiefs opened camp without three of their top defensive players on the field, but one of them has been given the go ahead to return to the practice field.

The team announced Monday that linebacker Tamba Hali has been activated from the physically unable to perform list. Hali had a “clean-up” procedure on his knee early in the offseason and has been resting and rehabbing it over the last six months.

It’s not the first knee trouble that Hali has experienced and that history will likely lead the Chiefs to keep him from doing too much too soon on the practice field.

Keeping him from playing too much in the regular season may be more difficult. Justin Houston is also on the PUP list after his own knee surgery and there’s a lot of uncertainty about when or even if he will be back on the field.
