The Giants dealt with a variety of injuries to their safeties last season and never found the right player to pair with Landon Collins in the back end of their defense.
It looks like they’ve found one this year in Darian Thompson. The third-round pick quickly made his way up the depth chart and has been starting alongside Collins in the team’s preseason games, but it looks like they’ll need to find someone else for Saturday’s date with the Jets.
The Giants announced that Thompson injured his shoulder last Saturday against the Bills and his timeline for returning to action is being viewed as week-to-week.
It was a bad game for Giants safeties named Thompson as Mykkele Thompson left the contest with a concussion. That likely leaves Nat Berhe as the next man in line a year after a blood clot in his calf took him out of the running for playing time in the 2015 secondary.
