On the eve of the 53-man roster deadline, the Chiefs and Cardinals have struck a trade.
Cornerback Marcus Cooper has been sent to Arizona, with Kansas City getting an undisclosed draft pick in the exchange.
The move has the potential to help both teams. Cooper wasn’t going to make the Chiefs’ roster, but now Kansas City gets a pick for him. The Cardinals wanted to add some depth to their secondary and couldn’t be sure they’d land Cooper if the Cardinals had set him free.
A 2013 seventh-round pick of the 49ers, Cooper didn’t make the 53-man roster in San Francisco as a rookie but was claimed by the Chiefs on waivers and has been in Kansas City since. Last year he played in 10 games with one start.
