Andy Reid is pessimistic about Jamaal Charles’ chances for Sunday

For most of the offseason, there were indications that Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles expected to be healthy enough to play Week One. That’s no longer the case.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said today that he’s pessimistic about the chances of having Charles on the field on Sunday against the Chargers.

“I think it’s a stretch for him to play,” Reid said.

Reid has been cautious throughout training camp with Charles, saying he doesn’t want to do anything that would set back his recovery from last year’s torn ACL. That caution now appears that it will extend to the regular season, and the Chiefs will go with Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware and Knile Davis on Sunday.

    Smart move….

I’m okay with this. Get West, Ware and Davis warmed up. I have no doubt Charles will be ready to perform at a high level when called on, these three need to feel the weight of the game right away. The team also needs to know that they can still win without him. What an incredible arsenal at RB the Chiefs have assembled, though.

I say trade him already! He’s best days are FAR behind him, he’ll never be worth more as a trade than now.. diminishing returns going forward for the Chiefs keeping him.

He’s as dumb as a rock, blames the team for his fumble costing the Chiefs the division against Denver 2 years ago. He has a paper thin ACL.. Be gone already.

the first tiny grassblade his cleats touch, and both ACLs/MCLs blow out…

2-14 season is in the near future, as in 2016.

To think fans were outraged by Marshall Faulk’s suggestion that the Chiefs should get rid of Jamaal Charles. Too much money tied on an often injured RB.

Jam all is the man. Smart move to wait til he is 100%. He is worth the wait. Spencer ware can hold it down.

I think they reported he hasn’t even taken a hit in practice yet. It sounds to me like he’s at least 2-3 weeks away.

looking at all the Charles news on Rotoworld makes a very interesting story now that the season is about to start.

Starting on Aug 16th when the Chiefs removed him from PUP list the news was awesome for Charles. Multiple articles on how he was ahead of schedule, practicing and a full go for Week 1. As recently as last week there was no doubt that Charles would be ready for Week 1.

All of a sudden in the last 5 days reports start showing up that he hasn’t even been hit in practice and practiced mainly with reserves despite previous articles that he was participating in all drills and had even gotten reps with the 1st team.

Do the reporters actually watch the practices or get their news directly from the team’s PR department?

“Done like dinner” Sounds like the description of the Faiders season since 2004, including 2016.

Translation, he will play if our ground game isn’t where it should be. Otherwise, he may sit for a good while on game days.

Even in his prime the Chiefs did nothing with JC. Last year he wasn’t missed. Andy should be shopping g him for a 4th.

    This is all a smokescreen.

Both Jamal Charles and Justin Houston are heading for IR.

KC Chiefs use KU Med School for their doctors …. enough said.

Honestly, if you can’t beat the Chargers without him, you are not going anywhere this season anyway.

Should have shopped him during the 2015 draft, when his trade value was much higher.
