When tight end Eric Ebron got injured at practice in early August, there was fear that he suffered an Achilles injury that could keep him out of the lineup for a long period of time.
There was some relief when it was revealed that Ebron hurt his ankle, although his status remained in some doubt as he remained out of practice and games through the end of the preseason. There were signs of optimism as August wound down, however, and Ebron warmed up before the team’s final preseason game last week without experiencing any problems.
Monday brought another good sign about his availability against the Colts this Sunday. Ebron was on the practice field along with every member of the 53-man roster other than linebacker Jon Bostic, who had foot surgery last month. Assuming no setbacks from the ankle, that should leave him on track to play.
The Lions kept four receivers on their initial roster with Golden Tate, Marvin Jones and Anquan Boldin holding the top three spots on the depth chart. That should leave a prominent passing game role open for Ebron, who had 47 catches for 537 yards and five touchdowns last season.
