Johnny Manziel is going back to school

The NFL is about to start a season without Johnny Football, but he’s going back to the place where he earned that nickname.

According to Ben Baby of the Dallas Morning News, former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has re-enrolled at Texas A&M for the fall semester.

Manziel’s social media pegged him as being in College Station, Tex., recently, sparking the speculation.

Manziel was a recreation, parks and tourism sciences major when he was playing for the Aggies.

The Browns cut him in March, after his arrest on domestic violence charges. That was followed by a summer of partying and then a pledge of sobriety, and the realization that he wasn’t going to get back to the NFL this year. He’ll serve a four-game suspension from the NFL for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Now he can focus on his studies, and his future on the diving team.

    Classic pic, well played PFT.

Maybe can become the next Leslie Knope. Or, more likely, Andy Dwyer.

If he’s serious…it’s a good start. If you never throw a pass yet can overcome your substance abuse issues, you are succeeding.

Skepticism about an athlete’s course of study has long been a source of wry comment. However, Joe Namath probably stated up the jock’s attitude toward the press the best:
Reporter:”What did you major in, Joe—basket weaving?”
Namath:”No, basket weaving was too hard…so I majored in journalism.”

This move isn’t about getting serious about life and going back to school to get his degree.

This move is about going back to the last place where he had success and life was a bowl of cherries.

    This move is about regression.

That is a cool major. Plus, I’d hope the structure will do him good. It sure is fun to play armchair psychiatrist.

A great way to get sober…..go back to the place where the bad habits started and/or blossomed. At the end of the day, it’s the only place on the planet still defending him and telling him he’s Mr. Awesome…..

Why do I get the feeling this is the worst place for him? Not only is he going to get invited to every kegger ever, he’ll be around a bunch of people who are going to worship him like he’s some sort of rock star. That’s probably what he wants so he’ll be all set in life as long as he stays in College Station the rest of his life. Outside of there, he’ll be irrelevant.

Manziel is taking Thornton Mellon’s advice during his commencement speech: As you all go out into the world, don’t go, it’s a jungle out there. Move back in with your parents, let them worry about it! Also, don’t forget to look out for number one, but remember to not step in number two!

Johnny, here’s some song lyrics for you, (with apologies to Springsteen)

I had a friend was a big football player
    Back in college school
He could throw that long ball by you
Make you look like a fool boy

Saw him the other night at this roadside bar
I was walking in, he was walking out
We went back inside sat down had a few drinks
But all he kept talking about was

Glory days, well they’ll pass you by
Glory days, in the wink of a young girl’s eye
    Glory days, glory days…….

Heed this song Johnny cause it happens to EVERYONE!

I love the Back to School references, but in actuality this is probably going to be more like Old School II. Don’t be surprised if he starts his own fraternity.

Whatever happens, I hope he gets his stuff together. It is sad to see a person self-destructing. I have never been a fan of Johnny Football, but I hope Johnny finds a way to live and not die.
