Running back Justin Forsett was one of the bigger names to get released during the cut to 53 players over the weekend, although his departure from Baltimore came with a large asterisk.
It wasn’t long after word of his release hit the wire that reports from Baltimore about his imminent return to the team began to surface. Those reports were confirmed on Monday afternoon with multiple reports that Forsett agreed to re-sign with the team.
The Ravens announced that safety Matt Elam and defensive end Carl Davis have been placed on injured reserve, opening up spots for Forsett and kick returner Devin Hester. By staying on the roster through cutdown day, both Elam and Davis will be eligible to be designated for return by the Ravens after six weeks on IR.
Keeping the door open for both players to return likely explains the roster machinations with Forsett, who wasn’t exposed to waivers as a vested veteran and could be assured of being back with a wink, a nod and, perhaps, a tweak to the contract that ran through the 2017 season before his release.
