Vikings not ready to name starting quarterback for Week One

The Vikings traded for Sam Bradford after Teddy Bridgwater went down for the season, but Bradford and Shaun Hill are splitting reps with the first team early on.

We know that the Vikings plan to have Sam Bradford as their starting quarterback this season after trading a first-round pick to the Eagles to acquire him in the wake of Teddy Bridgewater’s season-ending knee injury.

We don’t know whether Bradford will be their starter against the Titans in Week One, however.

Coach Mike Zimmer said on Monday that he’s not ready to say whether Bradford, who practiced with the team for the first time earlier in the day, or Shaun Hill will be in the lineup. He did say, via Matt Vensel of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, that both quarterbacks are going to get reps with the first team over the course of the week. Based on that, it doesn’t sound like a decision will be announced in the next couple of days.

Reports from practice had Hill getting the first crack on Monday. Those reps should be helpful for Bradford whether he gets the nod this weekend or not and a week on the sideline listening to the calls and otherwise observing the offense probably wouldn’t hurt either, although the price paid for Bradford makes it hard to rule out a quicker timeline.
