The Browns have acknowledged that they didn’t think much of Carson Wentz heading into this year’s draft. But they’re trying not to give Wentz any bulletin-board material heading into Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

So Browns coach Hue Jackson said on PFT Live this morning that the Browns’ view of Wentz was less about thinking he can’t play than about thinking he wasn’t the right fit for Cleveland.

“We didn’t draft Carson Wentz because we didn’t think it was the right fit for our team at this time,” Jackson said. “There’s nothing more to it. Obviously, that will make for great debate in the media, and that’s fine. Our singular focus right now is just preparing to face the Eagles.”

The Browns were thrilled that the Eagles did think Wentz was the right fit, because the Eagles sent the Browns two first-round picks, a second-round pick and a third-round pick in the trade that allowed the Eagles to select Wentz with the Browns’ first-round pick, No. 2 overall. On Sunday we’ll get our first look at whether Wentz was worth it.
