Saints release Cortland Finnegan

The Saints won’t have cornerback Cortland Finnegan on the field in Week One.

PFT has learned, via a league source, that the Saints have released Finnegan. The former Titans, Rams, Dolphins and Panthers corner signed with the team last month.

Finnegan is a vested veteran and his salary for the entire season would be guaranteed if he were on the team for the first week of the regular season. It has not been unusual in past years to see a team part ways with a player in Finnegan’s position leading up to the first game and then bring him back later in the season.

Finnegan’s departure leaves the Saints with four corners on the active roster.

Agent John Perla announced on Tuesday that kicker Wil Lutz, his client, signed to the Saints’ 53-man roster after it initially seemed he was heading to the team’s practice squad. The Saints have Kai Forbath on the roster unless another move has been made.

Raiders fans are very disappointed. Cortland is good for at least 2 pass interference and 1 personal foul every game

The Titans should sign him, I bet practice would be fun to watch…lol

It would be funny if the NBA did this stuff…..’here, we are gonna cut u, void full year guarantee and just sign u per game basis.’

They have to sign someone else. You can’t play defense with only 4 cornerbacks on the roster.

    Brandon Browner is available…

….I’m still scratching my head why the Saints haven’t signed Cody Parkey? He only holds the NFL record for MOST POINTS AS A ROOKIE (150) and is 95% recovered from his injury. The guy is automatic AND is ONLY 24 years old!……what are they waiting for ?….for the Atlanta Falcons to sign him to replace the 43 year old Matt Byrant?

He’ll be back in week 2 after the Saints ditch one of their 154 running backs.

Of all the releases and cuts of that ‘db’ the best was still Andre Johnson cutting loose on his face

Only 4 corners in a passing league? Payton must have seen the wishbone formation Rex Ryan threw out and thought that’s the new direction for the NFL.

Saints Nation, is your team frightened about Oakland coming to town this weekend?? They are considered the best on paper Champion of all time. Are you worried?

The Raiders are *probably the most penalized team in the history of the NFL. In fact, fouling Finnegan would be a good fit for the Raiders.

*=I’m too lazy to actually check the records, but I would bet I’m right.

He was done when the Fins signed him a few years back. The Saints thought he’d get better with age?
