Anthony Munoz: Maybe they should re-think the Pro Bowl

Hall-of-Famer Anthony Munoz weighs in on the Bengals' chances to finally advance in the playoffs. He also says Andy Dalton is one of the best QBs in the NFL.

Anthony Munoz played in 11 Pro Bowls during his Hall of Fame career with the Bengals. Today he’s not so sure the Pro Bowl is worth it.

Munoz said today on PFT Live that it might be best for players just not to put their bodies at risk in the Pro Bowl, seeing as it has now become a game where fear of injury seems to outweigh any benefit to playing.

“The way the game is going these days, I think that’s a consideration,” Munoz said. “Any time you’re going to a game and you’re just out there being careful not to get hurt, I think that’s what happens. So if that’s the case that most guys are thinking about injury, they shouldn’t go. And maybe they should re-think the Pro Bowl. To me, that was something I never thought about. Any time I put the full pads on, I didn’t think about getting hurt. I didn’t go three-quarters speed, half speed, to take care of myself.”

Munoz noted that Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is still recovering from surgery that was necessitated by an injury in last season’s Pro Bowl.

“The Pro Bowl game has become something where that’s the main focus, not to get hurt,” Munoz said. “So if that’s the case, I would advise guys not to go.”

More and more players seem to feel that way. Pretty soon, the NFL may have no choice but to cancel the Pro Bowl because it can’t find enough players to play.
