Broncos announce three-year extension with Emmanuel Sanders

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will help kick off the 2016 season on Thursday night as the owner of a shiny new contract extension.

Sanders and the Broncos have been talking for some time about a deal that would extend Sanders’ stay in Denver beyond the expiration of his contract after this season and it finally got done on Wednesday afternoon. Broncos General Manager John Elway broke the news.

There are no financial details available at present. Sanders was set to make $5.6 million this season.

With Sanders and Von Miller signed to long-term deals, the biggest impending free agents on Denver’s roster are linebacker DeMarcus Ware and defensive lineman Sylvester Williams, whose 2017 option wasn’t exercised by the Broncos.

YESSSSS! Elway strikes again. Go Broncos!!

Nice, too bad he has captain average Siemian as his QB for now.

Great player and great guy. Glad to see this deal get done. Thomas and Sanders and a heck of a duo. Go Broncos!

Ware and Sly are goners. Keeping Sanders is a great move as it gives them one of the best WR tandems and continuity for Lynch or Siemian should he show he’s got the goods.

D.Stewart is the most important pending free agent next year.

    Very underrated. Good signing.

Love the energy that Sanders plays with! Denver had to get this deal done.

At the end of the day, Denver lost three guys who until the end of the season last year no one had ever heard of (Osweiler, Trevathan, Jackson). Meanwhile, they’ve re-signed Miller, Anderson, Sanders, and Marshall. The jury is out on the Osweiler/Siemian swap, but Trevathan and Jackson have been easily replaced.

Denver is in great shape for next year too if Ware and Williams are the only free agents left. Elway knows how to build a winner.

    3 years $33 Million.

The Broncos have their key players locked up for next 3-4 years.
Even average play from their QB position and the Broncos will be a strong team. They didn’t even have that last year!

    He won’t see a dime beyond $7M.

Now we’ll see if he plays a D.T. & PLAY WHEN HE WANTS TO PLAY!!!

When you’re not pouring 20 million plus into the most important position on the field, there’s a little more cash to spread around.

That’s one good thing about having crap for QBs.

Given that their current starting QB was a backup to a backup last year, I don’t see how the position has improved. In addition, both QBs outplayed Brady last year and won a SB, the bar is pretty high.

No beef with Elway but I think he learned the hard way with DT and Von that the longer it goes, the more you pay. Congrats to everybody!

Broncos are going to have a lot of cap room next year. Most likely it will be another one of those offseasons were Elway signs 2-3 top FA.

  15. diehardfootballfan says: Sep 7, 2016 7:04 PM

He’ll play this year and then they will dump him. Bet on it.

As much as I hate to say it as a rival fan, locking up Sanders was a solid move by Denver.

Credit our defense for why our pedestrian QB play surpassed yours. Brady wasn’t outplayed. He was harassed and beaten into submission.

Better he gets the money than Mark Sanchez.

Ware will retire. He just wants to leave it all on the field for one last run. And Sly isn’t critical. He can go the Wolfe route and sign a reasonable contract to stay for awhile. Or he can go the Malik Jackson route and parlay playing on this defense into a huge payday. My guess is midway through the season he signs an extension. People will see that Jackson was a product of Denver’s system and no one will want to overpay another one. If Sly doesn’t sign then Kilgo will step in nicely after one more year in our system.

Worked out the way it was supposed to. Let Os walk and get over paid vs his previous playing performance. Cut Sanchez, and the punter Colquett, saving enough money to lock up Von, Anderson, Marshall and Sanders (he is a critical piece for the Broncs). At the same time they got some help on the O line.

Elway played it perfect. They even managed to draft what appears to be a decent QB in the draft.

Yeah, I know… Elway is the worst GM ever. Fine, I am just happy he is with the Broncos.

The traditional horrible patriots defense just wet itself!

  22. codysmart says: Sep 7, 2016 10:38 PM

Denver doesn’t win the Super Bowl last year without Sanders. Huge catches at critical times in each playoff game. Well deserved.

  23. trubroncfan07 says: Sep 7, 2016 10:51 PM

Got the young core locked up, lets see if the Raiders can sign Mack, Cooper and Carr to long term deals. Not going to pay all those guys.
