Report: Steelers, DeCastro “close” to extension

The Steelers and guard David DeCastro are “close” to finalizing a contract extension, ESPN reported Wednesday.

The Steelers don’t negotiate such deals during the season, so the deadline for getting a new deal done has been looming. DeCastro, 26, was a first-team All-Pro and went to his first Pro Bowl last season.

Not surprisingly, DeCastro’s teammates have spoken up, saying they believe DeCastro deserves a new contract. The Steelers picked up DeCastro’s fifth-year option in the spring, keeping him off the market in March 2017 in case a new deal wasn’t reached.

Last week, the Steelers shifted some salary with a raise for star wide receiver Antonio Brown. That and a new deal for DeCastro seemed to be priorities for the Steelers this summer as they prepared for the start of the 2016 eason.

The Steelers are already 0-1 as far as I’m concerned.

Steelers brass too smart not to get this done. Of course, if Ozzy was running the show it would be done already🙂

    Go Oz!!

DeCastro and the rest of the Steelers O-line are among the top 5 in the NFL.

Of course we’ll continue to hear otherwise from all the Steelers trolls who have nothing better to do with their time than bash the SIX TIME SUPER BOWL WINNERS.

SIXBURGH is the team and the 7th Lombardi is being prepared now for the Steelers.

There had been no news from either side on this for a month and I was beginning to worry. Getting a long-term deal done with DeCastro will be the highlight of an otherwise pretty dismal Steelers offseason.

Sign him up and let the games begin!

My Steelers are quietly becoming the team to beat in the AFC. It will be the usual teams in the playoffs LESS BaltiNOmore.

Good! I don’t want to hear anymore excuses when we beat up your players again this year. Assuming they are out of rehab by then. WHO DEY!

Pay the man for sure, he’s one of the elite guards in the league. In the NFL there’s always the disclaimer about “if they stay healthy,” but DeCastro, Pouncey and Gilbert all have a chance to make All Pro this year. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

If you’ve got good enough running backs, maybe you can run the ball. If you’ve got good enough receivers and QBs, maybe you can pass the ball. If you don’t have good enough offensive lineman you won’t be doing either one.

    Go Steelers!
